With the December holidays upon us and 2020 around the corner, each of us on the Seven Isles Homeowners Association (HOA) Board of Directors would like to extend best wishes for a joyful season, and good health and prosperity in the year ahead. We hope you have benefitted from the work of the HOA this year and have enjoyed the events we hosted, such as the recent October Social and annual Halloween Parade, in addition to our annual membership meeting.

During these events, participants sometimes inquire about the key value of the HOA. I answer, “Safety, safety, safety.” Historically, Seven Isles residents have continuously benefitted from one of the lowest crime rates in the surrounding Fort Lauderdale areas, a reason often cited by our residents as one of the key reasons they selected Seven Isles as home. We don’t have solicitors knocking on our doors to seek fundraising or evangelization. We don’t have people begging for cash or sleeping in our yards. We don’t have would-be thieves testing our door handles and boarding our boats.

Our Seven Isles Homeowners Association is responsible for our security, including our 24-hour security guards who are responsible for these freedoms we enjoy and often take for granted. Unless you’ve stood at the entrance to Seven Isles and witnessed first-hand our security guards sending away solicitors or panhandlers, you may not be aware of all the things they do every day for the benefit of every homeowner. Those flashing lights you see on the street at 3:00 am are the security guard’s patrol car, watching for anything or anyone suspicious around your home. During the day, our security guards have been a tremendous help with the volume of housing construction, helping to organize how cars are being parked along the roads by different contractors to minimize our frustrations and maximize safe egress.

This benefit relies on quarterly payments of $250 to the Seven Isles HOA by residents. Although our contribution is voluntary, we need to remember that the security we enjoy is not sustainable without consistent contributions, and we all need to pitch in. Soon our blue 2019 security lawn signs will be replaced by 2020 signs, identifying those who are contributors to our security fund. Please thank yours neighbors who have committed to our safety and if you see a new neighbor without a sign, please find an opportunity to explain the importance of their contribution to our collective cause.
