In their own words…

Mark Conroy, current Aqua Vista Street Representative.
My wife, Marilyn and I moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1987, Marilyn from New York and I from Miami. We both still work in the cruise industry and felt Fort Lauderdale was a great place to settle being close to Miami and Port Everglades with a resort town feeling. Marilyn decided immediately that we had to have a pool (she swims everyday) and she wanted to be near the ocean. We bought our first home in Riviera and a second on Solar. In 1997, we purchased a lot on Royal Palm and were going to build a new home. Once we realized the hassle we were going to go through during construction, we decided to sell the lot and purchased our home on Aqua Vista. One of the reasons we chose Seven Isles was the security program. There is a reason that we have one of the lowest crime rates in the city and with a cost of less than $4.00 per day we wonder why anyone would put the safety of their family and home in jeopardy for such a small amount.

Debbie Fitzgerald, current Treasurer and At-Large Representative & John Fitzgerald, current Barcelona Drive Street Representative.
John and Debbie have lived in Seven Isles since 1992 and recently celebrated our 30th anniversary. We have two boys who were born and raised in Seven Isles. We have always been involved in the neighborhood in one way or another from the Halloween parades to being board members as well as decorating the guardhouse and entry bridge every Christmas for many years now. John has renovated or built several homes in our lovely neighborhood, as well. We will be empty nesters after our youngest graduates from high school this year and look forward to what that means for us.

Bob Lietz, current Vice President and Castilla Isle Street Representative.
I have served on the board for nearly 20 years, and my wife, Kim and I have lived in Seven Isles for 27 years. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in business and moved to Florida in 1975 where I started a career in the advertising industry. After years of learning the trade and climbing the corporate ladder, we decided to set out on our own and started our own agency, ACA. ACA’s beautiful headquarters is located downtown on Third Avenue. Kim and I have been married over 35 years, have two children, and are now proud grandparents of 2 boys.

Carol Mashek, current Seven Isles Street Representative.
I have served on the Seven Isles HOA board for more than 11 years, including as secretary. Before that time, I served on the Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida board for several years prior to moving to Seven Isles and volunteering for the Seven Isles board. I studied at De Paul University in Chicago for both my graduate and undergraduate degrees. I taught Mathematics for several years before establishing a telecom consulting business where I have served as president for over 30 years.

Kathleen Moreo, current President and At-Large Representative.
I have lived on Delmar Place with my husband, Jim for the past three years and have been serving on the Seven Isles HOA board for two years. Before that time we lived in Southwest Ranches and Davie for many years. The best aspects of Seven Isles are all our amazing neighbors, our beautiful waterway neighborhood, our 24-hour security, and our truly dedicated HOA board who volunteer so much time and energy to keep Seven Isles a great place to live. I recently retired after selling my international health care education company and am now doing limited consulting and nursing volunteer work. Throughout my career I have served as national president, treasurer, and executive board member for various member associations.

Pam Steigerwald, proposed At-Large Representative.
My husband, Rob and I will be celebrating our 40th wedding this year and we are expecting our 5th grandchild any day now. In our 40 years of marriage, we have moved nine times while raising our four kids. We have lived three other times in South Florida, and even resided in the house next door! Seven Isles was the obvious choice for our retirement. This neighborhood has always been a great place to live, with friendly people, and the bonus of a security detail. Through the years, I have volunteered on various committees and have enjoyed meeting everyone, and learned greatly from the experiences.

Alex Spektor, current Pelican Isle Street Representative.
I live on Pelican Isle and just about everyone on Pelican Isle knows who I am. I look forward to meeting all the new people. I have been a Street Representative on the Board for about four-and-a-half years.

Howard Steinholz, Past President and current DeSota Pro Tempore Street Representative.
I am President of the Urban Group, a Florida-based public sector real estate company for 36 years. I have lived in Seven Isles with my wife, Peggy, since 1983 and have served many years on the Seven Isles HOA board, including 12 years as President. During this time we accomplished many things including entrance improvements, new street signs, a change of security service from 16 hours to 24 hours a day, and placement of a part-time City of Fort Lauderdale Police officer. I have also been working to get underground utilities in Seven Isles.

Gerd Woort-Menker, current Delmar Place Street Representative.
After my retirement from JP Morgan in NYC, my wife Myriam and I decided to move to sunny Florida. Fort Lauderdale was not necessarily our first choice but, after we visited the city and especially beautiful Seven Isles, we decided to build our new home right here. We have never regretted this decision not only because we enjoy the beautiful location and sport offerings, but also because our kids and friends love to visit us frequently.
The extra security provided by the Seven Isles Securities Team is another huge advantage of this location — We strongly believe that the 24/7 surveillance service makes everybody feel safer and therefore helps to maintain premium property values on Seven Isles. In our view, ALL residents should contribute their share so that we all can continue to benefit from this invaluable security service – after all, it is only a small quarterly amount in view of much bigger benefits for all of us.

Kirsten Uebrig, current Outreach Chair and At-Large Representative.
I live on Delmar Place with my husband, Sebastian, and 10-year old son, Soren. Sebastian and I come from different corners of the country. I’m originally from Southern California and Sebastian is originally from New Hampshire. We met in college in Florida. We’ve resided in South Florida for many years but always lived in the western parts of Palm Beach and Broward counties. About three years ago, while many families with kids were making the trek west, we decided to head east and truly experience the Venice of America. We are so grateful to have found Seven Isles. The sense of community is beyond expectations and we are thankful to call this wonderful neighborhood home.

Donna Zalter, current Sea Island Representative.
I have served on the Seven Isles Board since moving here from Hallandale. I speak English, Spanish and some Hebrew which I’ve been able to apply to my international real estate experience. I have an MBA with subspecialty in marketing and finance. I am also the founder of All Hung Up, hangers by design to satisfy the niche area of high end closet hangers that last a lifetime. (Allhunguphangers.com). I am currently concentrating on growing my real estate book of business in the Las Olas area and love living here.

Bridges
If you happen to view Seven Isles’ Facebook page, you will see a video posted 9 years ago that captures beautiful views from our Seven Isles bridges. Our 7 bridges are unique to our neighborhood, joining each of the isles into a community. However, even in the video from 9 years ago, you can see that the bridges and handrails were showing signs of neglect, needing cleaning and painting. Now the bridges are in dire need of attention. The Seven Isles Board recently voted to clean and repaint the bridges and handrails. Updates will be provided at the annual meeting on February 17.
