Heather Artman and her husband, Darin moved to Seven Isles last year over Thanksgiving. Their intent was to rent their home out for a few years until retirement, then come down here permanently. They packed up their dogs, their youngest son, a senior in high school at the time and made the journey down from New Jersey to fix the house up and get it ready for renters. Once they arrived, they immediately knew they were not going back to NJ other than to sell their house as Seven Isles was a paradise they never imagined (and a mile from their daughter).
Prior to her journey in yoga, Heather worked as an IT project management consultant with pharmaceutical companies for 20 years. Upon falling in love with yoga, she became a certified yoga teacher, opened up a studio in NJ, left the corporate world and never looked back.
After being in Fort Lauderdale for about 6 months, she began noticing that many of the studios here are hot studios, where the temps are set to around 100 degrees in which to practice. While many practitioners love adding external heat to their practice and this is a wonderful practice for them, Heather prefers to practice in a non-heated space. She began the journey of looking into available spaces to potentially open a studio in Fort Lauderdale as she really missed the community that flourished in her previous studio. There was one space on Las Olas that she kept going back to. It wasn’t as large as some of the others but had so much character, wonderful neighbors, and felt very cozy and homey when she was there. And that was the birth of Las Olas Yoga.
Her mission for Las Olas Yoga is to provide a place of wellness, healing and self-discovery through movement, mindfulness and community. From the moment you enter the studio, she hopes that you feel a sense of calm and peace that she has strived to create. She envisions it as a place where you can reconnect with old friends, meet new ones and practice together in community. All Las Olas classes are taught in a non-heated environment but you will still get warm from the inside out. We currently have Foundations, Slow Flow, Flow and Restore classes, so whether you’re new or prefer to practice at a slower, more instructional pace, flow with the breath in a vinyasa-based class, or totally relax in supine poses supported by lots of wonderful props, you will find a class here. Detailed descriptions of each class can be found on the website.
Heather looks forward to seeing you around the neighborhood and welcoming you to the studio soon.
