Sometimes in the early morning hours, the rising sun casts dandelion yellow hues dancing across the dew-drenched docks in Seven Isles. A sky bursting with tangerine streaks hovers over the Las Olas bridge, announcing another day. We may not see these encores of nature, having grown rather accustomed to the beauty that surrounds us in Seven Isles.

Have you noticed the wildlife who have found a way to survive and thrive in our downtown oasis? Cardinals, blue jays, hummingbirds and other birds soar from house to house in search of a perch or the occasional bird feeder. Squirrels dance across the power lines oblivious to the passing cars below. Monarch and Zebra longwing butterflies float silently with the breeze. Unwelcome iguanas march down from rooftops and trees, taking their commanding positions on the docks. Seven Isles has its own natural daily beat, which I suspect has been evolving to harmonize with our community life for over 50 years.

The history of Seven Isles is a fascinating autobiography written by the memories and stories of our longtime neighbors. There’s humor, drama and suspense about the people and places of Seven Isles that are entertaining and fun to hear. I’ve recently spent time with many of my Del Mar Place neighbors, and some from Aqua Vista. There’s been much to learn about the people and events here that have become part of the woven fabric of our community. During these gatherings we’ve laughed a lot, learned a lot, and shared time together that will make new memories.

I for one would like to meet more of my Seven Isles neighbors. I’d like to welcome newcomers and let them know which trash can holds the compost and what day to take it to the curb. I’d like to share a beverage with neighbors I’ve come to know and others I’ve only seen from my car window. What about you? Would it interest you to attend a happy hour to hear some of the stories about our community from some of our longtime neighbors? Would you like to attend a Meet-the-Streets social event at one of the many Las Olas restaurants interested in hosting us for a get together? Would you prefer a block party similar to our annual Halloween gathering? Have you experienced particularly enjoyable or successful community events in other neighborhoods that you can suggest?

As summer races past us, we all plan for the months ahead. Let’s find important time to connect or reconnect with our many wonderful neighbors. If you are interested in seeing options for some upcoming social events, please take a moment to let me know what you’d be interested in attending. Complete this online form or send me an email at kathleenmoreo@gmail.com. I’ll gather the information and bring it to the September homeowners’ association meeting.

Thanks, neighbor!
