Our 2nd annual Seven Isles Happy Hour Reception was just as amazing as our first one. I think we even had more of our neighbors show up this year and hopefully even more will attend at our next function.
First I want to give a special shout out to Seven Isles Residents Gary and Kathryn Glenewinkel and their son Chris Young who are the owners of Flight 19 and graciously offered to host the HOA at this year’s gathering. It was very much appreciated! I for one had never been to Flight 19 and was very impressed. The first thing you notice is the massive custom bar with a gorgeous slab of stunning granite atop it. My wife and I are already planning on a dinner outing at Flight 19 to get the full experience.
I was thrilled to meet so many of our Seven Isles Neighbors but look forward to meeting many more. I have heard that some neighbors had no idea that we even had a community website. Please spread the word. This website belongs to all of us here in this beautiful place that we call home. I was curious as to how they came up with the name Flight 19. I asked Chris who also happens to be the restaurant’s manager to tell us a bit more about the local hot-spot. Please scroll all the way down to read more about Flight 19 and what they have planned.
Regards
Shepard
Flight 19 was a group of 14 men in five Grumman TBM Avenger torpedo bombers, who flew out of Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale (now Fort Lauderdale International Airport) on December 5th, 1945. All 14 airmen on the flight were lost, as were all 13 crew members of a Martin PBM Mariner flying boat that subsequently launched from Naval Air Station Banana River to search for Flight 19. This story has prompted the Bermuda Triangle Theory and is still considered one of the great aviation mysteries of all time. This restaurant seeks to honor the memory of Flight 19 and maintain the art of storytelling.
I am a 2nd generation Fort Lauderdale kid (spent most my childhood in 7 isles) and I opened Flight 19 to showcase the food I grew up eating. I call it Florida fare. Its southern roots cooking with a combination of Caribbean techniques. We open at 11am daily and serve up bottomless brunch Saturday and Sundays from 11am to 3pm! Our happy hour is M-F 4-7pm and includes half off: wine by glass, draft beer, any single pour liquor drink.
Flight 19 will also be hosting a 5 week pop-up from 11/25/19-12/31/19. It will be called Sippin’ Santa on Las Olas and it will be a tiki Christmas! The sunny, surf vibes of tiki culture and the snow-white backdrop of Christmas naturally pose as polar opposites. But with the holidays and the heart of tiki both centered on nostalgia for a simpler time, spreading joy, and a little imagination, it’s easy to picture Santa Claus in board shorts and flip-flops, sipping tropical libations under a palm tree while the snow falls. Besides, tiki is rooted in escapism. Santa needs a vacation from his hard work at the North Pole, too, and our pop-up takes you there.
